artist statement

I come to performance art at the intersection of poetry, installation and conceptual art. Often, I create environments, walk into them, and make things happen. Performance becomes then for me a new way to make poetry. More than character or plot, image and interaction entice me—as well as the challenge of being in my own body while being with others in public space. My work is often non-linear, multi-vocal and works better at some times than others for some people more than others. The writers, poets, artists, curators who have contributed remarks about the following pieces have split bills, shared stages and kindly inspired, supported and challenged me in my endeavor. They are a part of my community and I love them. A special shout out to the multi-talented Miré Regulus who has four times directed me with urgency, insight and intelligence. The College of St. Catherine also gets great kudos for not merely tolerating my forays but for supporting and recognizing this work as creative scholarship. Enjoy!
