Community
Outside of the Ivory Tower, I’ve been privileged to teach in numerous community programs and contexts. I’ve worked as a Public School Teaching Associate for the New York City Ballet and a high school on-line poetry mentor. Co-founding Witness Tree Literary Arts Education, Inc. in 1996 offered me even more opportunities to design and facilitate workshops, automatic public writing events, readings and more. This included work for the St. Paul Company’s Arts and Diversity Committee Family Diversity Initiative, a Revolution Books Celebration of Poetry and Engagement and performance stints as the Poetry Fortune Teller. More recently, I was a Multicultural Excellence Program Mentor for two years in the St. Paul Public Schools. And for the last three years, I have been developing The Poetry Circle: an occasion for communities for discuss poetry together.
